Washington – (WSFA) - The head of FEMA announced Tuesday that President Barack Obama has declared Alabama's Gulf Coast Region a major disaster area.

The declaration comes in the wake of Tropical Storm Ida that hit on November 9th and 10th.

The declaration means local and state governments are now eligible for federal aid to begin repairing or replacing property damaged in the storm.
