Trash is big talk in Wetumpka

WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) -  Wetumpka's trash disposal service is currently a big topic of discussion in the city. Since 1981, Wetumpka has been burying construction and demolition debris free of charge in a plot of land the Department of Corrections' owns.

This summer, DOC asked the city to compensate it for using the landfill. However, the city decided to quit using the landfill.

Recently, they reached an agreement to allow the city to use the landfill free of charge until it reaches its capacity. At that point, the city will have to search for another place to bury the waste and bid on the construction of two cells to hold the waste.

No word on when that job will be up for bid.
