Eufaula police officer arrested

EUFAULA, AL (WSFA) - A high ranking Eufaula Police officer is facing felony charges. 

Investigators started looking into the commander of the department's narcotics division after $20,000 went missing. Lieutenant Stephen Hanners has since been arrested for theft of property first degree. 

The theft involves money that had been seized and awaiting a forfeiture hearing along with other funds that had been forfeited.

Lt. Hanners later resigned from his position.  He has no comment on the case.
