UNION SPRINGS, AL (WSFA) - With temperatures hovering at or near the freezing point, officials are scrambling to fix a broken heating system affecting a local corrections facility.

Brian Corbett with the Alabama Department of Corrections confirms that two boilers have failed at the facility, but temporary heating equipment is in place.

Corbett says a boiler is enroute from Lexington, Kentucky and should arrive by Tuesday. A company from Georgia is set to install the system.

The Dept. of Corrections says it is evaluating the heating situation and options regarding the housing of inmates at this time.
