MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Democratic candidate for governor Ron Sparks and his campaign manager, Justin Saia, have parted ways.
Sparks said Tuesday Saia had done a good job, but the campaign needed new leadership for the race to the Democratic primary June 1. Sparks said he expects to name new staff within 10 days.
Sparks' Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Artur Davis, also had a change in his campaign recently. He split with senior adviser Joey Ceci. Ceci was working with U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith of Huntsville when he switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party.
Saia and Ceci worked in Griffith's 2008 campaign in the 5th Congressional District. Sparks said his decision did not stem from Griffith's party switch or from some Democrats encouraging him to run for the 5th District.
