Day 10: Who has the best alumni?

WSFA 12 News is teaming with our Raycom sister station KLTV in Tyler, Texas to debate the biggest 11 points entering the BCS Championship game on January 7th...and each day, we will present a new debate point.

WSFA 12 News/Alabama is represented by Sports Director Jeff Shearer. KLTV/Texas is represented by Sports Director Ryan Peterson.

Topic #10: Who has the best alumni?

Ryan says... I could be here all day talking about Texas' great alumni.  Some of the greatest football players and coaches have called Texas home.  Darrell Royal is one of the best coaches in history.  Texas has two Heisman trophy winners. Earl Campbell may be the best to have ever played running back.  His bruising style led him to the pro football hall of fame.  Ricky Williams was the best running back in college football in 1997 & 98.  I haven't even mentioned the great Bobby Layne.  The Detroit Lions haven't had a good quarterback since pro football hall of famer left the game.  There are so many more great players I don't have time to mention.

Jeff says... MVP of Super Bowl I and II - Bart Starr. Bama grad. MVP of Super Bowl III - Joe Namath. Bama grad.  Greatest college coach ever - Bear Bryant. Bama grad.  Defensive leader of those great Cowboys teams from the '70's - Lee Roy Jordan. Bama grad.  Greatest NFL player in the league's early years - Don Hutson. Bama grad.  Derrick Thomas, Cornelius Bennett, Shaun Alexander, Ken "Snake" Stabler. Bama grads. I could go on all day.
