Houston-Love Memorial Library to remain closed until repairs are complete

Dothan, AL (WSFA) – In an emergency called meeting Thursday, the Houston-Love Memorial Library Board voted unanimously to accept a recommendation from Comfort Systems USA to repair the existing boiler, despite an ongoing renovation which will add 30,000 feet of space.

Monday, the library's broiler heating unit failed, and workers decided that using space heaters was too dangerous.

Even though plans to renovate the library will be in full swing by the time the new broiler is installed, the library board felt the move was the best option to address the building's need for heat.

Officials say the temperature inside the building hovers around 50 degrees, and due to more anticipated cold weather, the board also voted to remain closed until repairs are complete.

Anticipated reopening will be 9 am Tuesday, January 19.

The branch libraries in Ashford and Columbia will continue to operate on normal schedules and the bookmobile will serve its regular routes.

In the meantime, the Ozark-Dale County Public Library has offered to provide services free of charge for Houston-Love Memorial patrons.
