Woman arrested in overnight chase

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A few tense minutes for numerous police departments around the capital city, but in the end they made an arrest in an overnight chase.

The pursuit started around 1:00am Monday when travelers started calling police to say an SUV going the wrong way down Cobbs Ford Road. Prattville police initiated the chase as the vehicle barreled north in the southbound lanes.

When the vehicle darted on U.S. Highway 31 and entered Montgomery, police in the capital city became involved. MPD officers followed the vehicle back onto the interstate where they were joined by Alabama State Troopers and Prattville police.

Once the driver hit the Millbrook city limits, the suspect was greeted with spike strips that flattened her tires and brought her vehicle, and the chase, to an abrupt end.

The suspect, Jacqueline Barfield, was arrested and charged with numerous traffic violations, reckless endangerment, attempting to allude and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

She's being held at the Autauga County Jail.

A motive for why Barfield was driving erratically was not immediately known.
