Alabama lawmaker-educators challenge leave policy

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Six legislators who work for Alabama's two-year college system are asking a judge to temporarily halt enforcement of a requirement that they use leave time to attend the Legislature for the next 3½ months.

The emergency request was filed with Montgomery County Circuit Judge Johnny Hardwick, who scheduled a hearing for noon Friday. The State Board of Education requires legislators at two-year colleges to use leave time to attend the Legislature. The six legislators say they have little leave time. The six legislators include Democratic Rep. Randy Hinshaw of Meridianville, Rep. Jack Page of Gadsden, Rep. Pebblin Warren of Tuskegee, and Sen. Quinton Ross of Montgomery. Also included are Republican Rep. Blaine Galliher of Rainbow City and Rep. Todd Greeson of Ider.
