DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) – As many as three million people may need emergency help following Tuesday's powerful earthquake in Haiti.
Officials believe the death toll could reach the hundreds of thousands, and the United States has pledged to lead the way in rescue and rebuilding efforts.
Nationally, the American Red Cross has already pledged one million dollars in assistance.
Here at home, local chapters are accepting donations.
Folks showed up Wednesday at the Wiregrass Area Red Cross after hearing about the tragedy.
They said they wanted to help however they could.
Dothan resident Judy Ganey said, "I just wish I could do more because they need more. We are a very spoiled nation in America and we just don't realize how lucky we are."
Folks can also donate by calling 1-800-REDCROSS or by visiting REDCROSS.ORG.
You can also make a $10 dollar donation by texting "Haiti" to 90999.
It will bill that monetary donation to your phone bill.
