MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama State University trustees have renamed a campus arena in honor of two former basketball coaches. The decision follows their 2008 vote to strip the name of a prominent black political leader from the building.
The board voted Thursday to name the arena the Dunn-Oliver Acadome, in memory of the two deceased coaches, Charles Johnson "C.J." Dunn and James V. Oliver.
In May 2008, the board voted to remove the name of Joe Reed from the domed building, which was known at the time as the Joe L. Reed Acadome.
That vote came amid conflict between the board and Reed, who had sued challenging severance pay for an outgoing president.
