MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Ripping away the past to make room for the future. The building at 500 Adams Avenue has always been an apartment complex. It's about 60 years old and currently undergoing a massive renovation.
"We'll keep the character and keep the hardwood floors and retile the kitchens," said Beau Daniel of Foshee Management Company.
Daniel's company will manage the place and says it will be the 'least expensive renovated loft apartments in downtown Montgomery.'
There are 20 apartments at the Adams Avenue Loft Apartments.
"This apartment will run around $530 a month," said Daniel.
The monthly rent depends on the square footage. The apartments have one bedroom and one bath.
And that's not all. They're drawing up plans for a fancy courtyard.
"All of this will be landscaped with chairs and gas grills," said Daniel.
Plans also call for taking out some stairs in the center building and put in a breezeway.
Beau Daniel says there's little doubt the renovation is taking place primarily because of the on-going revitalization throughout the downtown area which started about 7 years ago.
Construction workers haven't been on the job a week and already two people have signed leases.
One block at a time, one building at a time, the face of downtown still changing.
