Montgomery crime rates show a drop for 2009

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery Police Chief Art Baylor sent a letter to the public this weekend highlighting an overall drop in crime in the Capital City.

Baylor says last year the number part one crimes, like robberies, assaults and burglaries, dropped 11.5% in 2009 over 2008.

This is the first double digit decrease in several years.

Criminal homicides and felony sex cases increased year to year.

Baylor also expressed disdain for repeat offenders in Montgomery.
