OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) - An Opelika mother pleaded guilty in connection with the death of her newborn child.

Prosecutors said Efernia McClendon left her baby outside her family's apartment where the child later died of exposure to the cold in February 2008.

Last Friday, McClendon pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges. The judge sentenced her ten years in prison, but McClendon's attorney asked for a probation hearing.
