Road builders brought out the heavy artillery today at the State House...literally. Pieces of heavy equipment used to build roads and bridges were parked outside the legislature's meeting place.
The state road builders are trying to convince lawmakers to pass a billion dollar road and bridge construction bill.
Sen. Lowell Barron (D-Fyffe, AL) introduced a bill that would take $100-million a year from the state's Oil and Gas Trust Fund...for tens years to pay for the plan. Opponents don't like the idea of taking nearly half of the $2-billion remaining in the Trust Fund.
Barron claims the bill would create $30-thousand jobs and make roads and bridges safer for Alabama motorists and more attractive to prospective industries.
