Botched Fire Response

ATLANTA (AP) - Four firefighters in an Atlanta suburb have been fired after they responded to a 911 call and left when they didn't see any signs of a fire. A few hours later on Sunday, the same house was engulfed in flames and the elderly woman who lived there was found dead inside.

The DeKalb County firefighters are under investigation for any criminal wrongdoing. An investigative report says the four failed to follow procedure when they failed to verify the address, didn't approach the home and failed to make contact with the 911 caller.

Victim Ann Bartlett's family says they hope the tragedy can teach a lesson to other firefighters. The department is reviewing its procedures.
