DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) – Good economic news for the circle city.
Despite increasing unemployment a number of new businesses are planning to open in Dothan in the coming weeks.
The owner of the Red Elephant Pizza and Grill says Dothan was the perfect choice for his restaurant.
"Very family oriented fresh ingredients it's a pizza place we're hoping Dothan really enjoys," says John Schrowang.
The Red Elephant is just one of a number of about seven new restaurants in town.
While the economy is forcing some to close up shop it isn't stopping everyone from opening up a new business which is a good thing for Dothan.
"It keeps this community attractive to businesses and other small businesses that are looking to relocate or to come to an area, we have the people here that can fill those jobs," says Melia McKean, of the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce.
Dothan's also fairing well with their unemployment numbers which are below both the state and national levels.
"For our community to continue to attract small business and entrepreneurs it's a wonderful thing for us because it helps with unemployment it helps with our economy and it helps with the growth in the area," adds McKean.
100 people have already been hired at the Red Elephant.
