Montgomery Police Open Fire On Suspect With a Knife

Montgomery, AL (WSFA) - A Montgomery police officer was forced to open fire during a chase Monday night.

Major Huey Thornton says around 5:50pm police were called to the 1971-D Gibbs Drive for a domestic violence complaint. When they got there, police say the male involved ran away with a butcher knife in his hand. Police say he then turned and came towards the two officers in an "aggressive manner." After he refused to put the knife down and continued towards the officers, Thornton said, one officer fired one shot. It grazed the man's stomach. Police say he continued towards the officers and was tased.

Police got the man in custody. At this point, he faces domestic violence charges.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting, which is customary in situations like this.  WSFA 12 News will keep you updated.
