Rash of newspaper box thefts across N. Ala.

BIRMINGHAM, AL. (WSFA) - There's an old saying that no news is good news. For the people of Birmingham, that's not quite the case. No news means someone is stealing all the newspaper boxes.

The Associated Press reports that a thief is believed to be responsible for stealing more than 100 newspapers boxes in the Birmingham and Hoover area.

Hoover police say the thefts started around Feb. 1 and happen during the day and night.

The thief's favorite , or possibly least favorite newspaper, depending on how you look at it appears to be USA Today. The newspaper-caper is hitting delivery locations in Jefferson and Shelby counties and possibly Anniston.

The motive may not be about newspapers at all, however. Hoover police department spokesman Capt. Jim Coker says his department thinks the thief is likely stealing the boxes for the change inside them.
