TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - A Tuscaloosa teenager, who investigators believe accidentally shot himself in the head Monday afternoon, remained in critical condition at a Birmingham hospital Tuesday.
Capt. Loyd Baker, commander of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit, did not name the 16-year-old.
Authorities say the boy, his brother and a friend had been shooting the gun in a yard at Bear Creek Trailer Park around 4 p.m. Monday.
Witnesses say that the teen was possibly playing when he held the gun to his head and pulled the trigger, thinking that all the bullets inside had already been fired.
Investigators say the young man was lying on the floor of his residence when they arrived.
