Troy University Broadcast Journalism students earn top honors

Troy University has the Southeast's "Best College Television Station."  Below is the press release from Troy University:

 TROY – Troy University's student-led television station captured top honors as the Southeast Journalism Conference's Best College Television Station.

Also named as SEJC's co-student presidents for 2010-2011 were Hannah Bishop, a sophomore broadcast journalism major from Dothan, and Abby Gresham, a junior broadcast journalism major from Daphne, and faculty member Dr. Jeff Spurlock, of Troy, was elected the conference's president for the new year. The University will host the 2011 convention Feb. 17-19, 2011.

In addition the honors, Meg Smith, a senior broadcast journalism major from Mobile, placed second in the Best Television Journalist category.

In all 126 students were ranked in 24 categories as being among the "Best in the South" in the SEJC's annual journalism awards competition. This year's competition included 330 eligible entries from 32 member schools, and were judged by journalism professionals from newspapers, broadcast outlets and magazines across the country.

"The purpose of the Southeast Journalism Conference's contest is to function as a journalism teaching tool as well as a competition," said Dr. Spurlock, who serves as the University's faculty representative to the conference. "I am very proud for our students and the level of professionalism they put into Trojan Vision."
