MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery Police have arrested and charged a father with the murder of his 2-year-old son.

Officers responded to Jonathan Katan's home at 7017 Oakside Drive Tuesday morning after getting a call that Katan's baby was unresponsive. Preston Katan, 2, was found lying in his bed and was pronounced dead of unknown causes at the scene.

Katan,25, told investigators he he found his son wedged between the mattress of the bed and the bumper guard, unresponsive and cold to the touch when he went to check on him.

An autopsy shows that to be untrue, however. The baby died from multiple blunt force injuries to the head. The manner of death was then ruled a homicide.

The father was re-interviewed by detectives and probable cause was established to believe Jonathan Katan was responsible for the death of his son.

Katan was then arrested for Capital Murder and placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility with no bond.

Police say they don't have a motive at this time. An investigation continues.
