VANCOUVER, (WSFA) - Wednesday night's edition of The Olympics on NBC did what no other program has been able to do in years, bring down the ratings champ, American Idol.

Not only did the Olympics beat Idol, it decimated it. After a six-year unbeaten streak Idol went head-to-head against The Olympics and lost by nearly 12 million viewers.

Ratings indicate 30.1 million tuned in to watch the Winter Olympics from Vancouver, while just 18.4 million stayed with Fox's biggest hit. The Olympics out-rated Idol by 63 percent among households and 30 percent among Adults 18-49 based on data provided by Nielsen Media Research.

NBC's Wednesday night Olympic broadcast featured the greatest single day in Winter Olympics history as Team USA captured six medals.
