Civil Air Patrol appoints new adviser

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -  Col. Michael Jay Murell has been selected as the new senior adviser for operations at Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters at Maxwell Air Force Base.  Murrell will assist the national leadership with conduct and support of CAP's operational missions.

Murrel initially started as the aerospace education adviser of CAP, and has gained over four years of experience while at the Headquarters.  He has received numerous awards for his service which include: The distinguished Service Award, The exceptional Service Award, Commander's Commendation Award, and Commander's Commendation Award, along with the Gill Robb Wilson Award, signifying completion of the CAP's Professional Development Program.

Murrel has also served as an Ohio Wing commander, and is currently the Florida Wing deputy chief of staff for operations. His staff assignments included wing director of operations, and deputy director of emergency services.

Murrel is active in CAP's operational mission as a mission observer, mission pilot, air operations branch director, operations section chief and incident commander in the Florida Wing. He will begin his newest position as senior adviser on February 28, 2010.
