Dothan, AL (WSFA) – A fire has claimed the life of an elderly woman.

It happened late Thursday afternoon on East Burdeshaw Street in Dothan.

Fire fighters say they arrived to find the house filled with smoke and the woman already dead inside.

Travis Fretts, with the Fire Marshall's office, said, "We were able to find the victim and remove them from the structure. The fire marshals office along with the crime scene techs from the Dothan Police Department are trying to find the cause of the fire."

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

At this time, her name has not been released.

Fire officials say she was 92 years old.

The investigation is still underway.
