MONTGOMERY, AL - A series of meetings designed to both inform the public on progress to the Montgomery Public Schools Strategic Plan and to get feedback on it began Thursday at Vaughn Road Elementary School. Superintendent Barbara W. Thompson, board members, business leaders and key district administrators were on hand to update the plan's progress.
"We are in the second year of the five year plan," said Thompson. "I wanted to make certain the community knows the elements of the plan and has the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback. We've made good progress and I am confident we will complete the 57 initiatives within the plan's timeframe."
Work on the plan began in late 2007. It was approved by the board in 2008 and takes the district through the year 2013. Business and community groups and school personnel participated in putting together the plan. About a dozen of the 57 initiatives are complete with around 60 percent of the goals over the halfway mark in the first two years of work.
Participants at the meeting asked questions and were given cards to provide feedback on what they heard. An online survey is also being taken for those who are unable to attend. The complete MPS Strategic Plan and the survey are on the district's website www.mps.k12.al.us.
