MONTGOMERY, AL"Ÿ The Montgomery County Board of Education recognized Carver Elementary Principal Cathey Hendricks and McKee Junior High Principal Patrick Nelson as the February Principals of the Month at its meeting on Tuesday.
The Principal of the Month Award, sponsored by KHAFRA, the Shoppes at EastChase and Flowers by Buck, salutes an elementary and secondary principal whose leadership ability, commitment to students, teachers and staff, positive attitude, and ability to build community support contributes to the overall success of their school.
Hendricks has been principal at Carver Elementary for 17 years and credits her teachers, staff and parents for the school's success. "To be a good principal you have to have a good team that works together," Hendricks said. "By working hard and instilling the belief in my staff that our students can achieve all things is the key to our success here at Carver."
Nelson has been principal at McKee Junior High for two years and says the best part of his job is watching students learn. "I love watching our students grow and progress academically and socially, but to do that you need to be able to work with parents and staff effectively," he said. "You can't be a good principal if you don't have a spirit of cooperation and a genuine concern for students and teachers. I love my school and my students and staff know that I will do whatever it takes to help them succeed."
Principals can be nominated by school staff, district employees, parents or members of the community. Applications are evaluated by an independent panel made up of members of the community. Winners receive a $50 gift card, which is donated by KHAFRA and the Shoppes at EastChase, and flowers donated by Flowers by Buck. No board funds are used.
