City of Dothan holds health fair for employees

DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) – Hundreds of Dothan city employees took part in the city's health and benefits fair Wednesday morning.

City leaders say it's a way to keep employees healthy, and a way save the city money long term.

"Anything we can do to promote health and maintaining your fitness of employees is a positive benefit to the city as well as our employees," says City Manager Mike West.

City leaders say this type of prevention aids the city in the long run because healthy employees mean less time lost on the job and more money saved.

"In looking at the rising costs of health insurance with over a thousand employees in the city of Dothan we felt like prevention is always better than a cure," says personal director Delvick McKay.

"We end up with people who spend less time out of work sick, they become healthier and also the benefit to the city is it ultimately reduces our costs of healthcare," says West.

This is the first time the city has held this type of event.
