Projects hindered by constant rain

DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) – A number of major projects currently underway in the City of Dothan is running a little behind schedule.

The reason all the rain.

Work includes projects like the reworking of an intersection on the city's Westside, resurfacing of U.S. 231 north or the multimillion dollar wastewater treatment project.

City leaders say since work began whether its rain or snow the weather has caused major delays.

"In 2009 instead of about 50 something inches of rain we had about 80 inches of rain so it's really slowed the earthwork down," says Dothan Traffic Engineer Charles Metzger.

On Denton Road the bridge replacement has been complete for some time now but the final work can't be complete because the ground stays soaked.

"We had rain and then cold, rain and cold, so even if you had three or four days, and that's what people talk to me about they had some days, but your base doesn't dry out if it's rain and then cold again," adds Metzger.

City leaders say hopefully some of these projects will be complete by the summer.
