Mobile rains cause sewer overflows

MOBILE, AL (AP) - Mobile health officials say about 58,000 gallons of sanitary sewer overflows occurred Monday.

Mobile County Health Department officials say the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System experienced overflows as heavy rainfall moved through the area.

Three Mile Creek experienced overflows of 22,500 gallons from the Siena Vista neighborhood, 14,000 gallons from Tonlours Drive, 12,000 gallons from the intersection of Mill and Julian streets, and 9,600 gallons overflowed from Hayles Street, a dead end.

Officials say Eslava Creek experienced overflows from at least two locations.

Those were 4,000 gallons which overflowed from Westwood Street and 12,000 gallons from Johnston Avenue.

They warn those who come in contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of the overflows to use caution.
