Ecovery plans to collect dangerous electronics

MONTGOMERY AL, (WSFA) - According to Ecovery LLC, in 2007 1.8 million tons of electronic devices such as computers, copiers, and VCR's were discarded in landfills, not recycled. These electronics contain substances that can possible cause problems to the environment if not correctly disposed.

Montgomery Clean City Commission, Ecovery LLC, and Legacy, Inc., Partners in Environmental Education will host a one-day recycling event for the collection of electronic equipment on Saturday, March 6th in the north parking lot of Cramton Bowl at 1201 Madison Avenue.  The event will be from 8am until 1pm.

Items that will be accepted are telephones, VCR's & DVD players, microwaves, smoke alarms, communication cables and cord, medical electronics, servers, CD & tape players, Electronic games, UPS's, word processors, modems, pagers & PDS's, radio's, camcorders, answering machines, power supplies, routers, hubs and all computer items

There will be a $10 fee per television and a $1 fee per monitor due to the high amount of hazardous waste in these items.
