MONTGOMERY, AL - With just two home games remaining in the 2009-10 basketball season, the Alabama State University men's and women's basketball teams host Southwestern Athletic Conference foe Grambling State Thursday in a pair of key league contests. The women's game tips-off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's tilt at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Hornets (9-16, 6-10 SWAC) are currently in sixth-place in the league standings and looking for a win to solidify their participation in next week's SWAC Tournament. ASU has lost three straight and hope to avenge a one-point loss to the Lady Tigers (13-12, 10-6 SWAC) earlier this season at Grambling.
ASU's men currently rank third in the SWAC standings with a 14-13 overall record and an 11-5 mark in league play. A victory over Grambling (6-18, 4-12 SWAC) would nearly assure the Hornets the number three seed at the SWAC Tournament. The Hornets handed the Tigers a 70-55 loss in their first meeting this season on Jan. 4.
Thursday's doubleheader has been designated as "Throwback Thursday" by the ASU Sports Marketing Committee and all Hornet fans are encouraged to sport their favorite "vintage" outfits to the games.
Additionally during halftime of the men's game, the ASU Track and Field teams will be recognized and celebrated for their sweep of the recently completed SWAC Indoor Championships. Both the Bama State men's and women's squads captured the team titles at the conference event and boasted several individual award winners including Coach of the Year, Track Athlete of the Year (male and female) and Field Athlete of the Year.
Tickets for all ASU home games can be purchased at the Acadome ticket office. Both the men's and women's games will also be carried live on the radio on WVAS (90.7 FM).
Alabama State's regular season finale will be Saturday against Jackson State and will feature a pre-game tribute to the senior classes for both the men's and women's teams.
