Hundreds line up to apply for theme park jobs

BESSEMER, AL (AP) - Most years the crowds showing up to apply for jobs at the Alabama Adventure theme park are mostly teenagers and young adults looking for a summer job.

That's not the case in this recession year.

Older adults were among the hundreds who lined up Saturday to apply for summer jobs at the theme park.

Alabama Adventure marketing manager Brian McDuff told The Birmingham News the crowd may be the largest ever seeking jobs at the theme park.

One of those waiting in line was a 35-year-old substitute teacher from Tuscaloosa County, Jessica Brandon.

She said she was hoping to make extra money over the summer.

More than 49,000 people are listed as unemployed in the Birmingham metropolitan area.
