Pilot Sullenberger to be honored in Ala.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who as a US Airways pilot won acclaim by guiding a stricken aircraft to a safe landing in the Hudson River, will be honored by an organization that represents Medal of Honor recipients.

Sullenberger, who recently retired, will receive the American Spirit Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation at a presentation set for Aug 28 at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration in Huntsville. Sullenberger piloted US Airways flight 1549 to a safe landing in the river in January 2009, preserving all 155 lives on board. He is a former Air Force fighter pilot and flew F-4 Phantom IIs prior to becoming a commercial airline pilot in 1980.
