Two Hornets named to All-SWAC basketball team

BOSSIER CITY, La. –The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its 2009-10 Men's Basketball All-Conference honors Tuesday night in a banquet preceding the start of the Farmers Insurance Basketball Tournament and Alabama State University's Menji Mundadi and Tramayne Moorer both garnered postseason accoloades.

The ASU senior duo were both chosen first-team All-SWAC honorees in a vote by the league's coaches and sports information departments, and selected members of the media.

"I am extremely proud of Menji and Scoop," said Hornets head coach Lewis Jackson. "I feel like this is a well-deserved honor for both of these guys who have worked extremely hard and been a big part of our team this season. Menji has really blossomed into an all-around performer and is one of the league's top shooters, while Scoop has been a work horse for us and does so many of the little things for us to be successful."

Mundadi, a guard from Chicago, leads ASU and ranks second in the SWAC in scoring at 16.5 points per game. He also is tops in the conference in 3-pointers per game (3.2) and 3-point shooting (41.2 percent) and ranks 10th and 20th in the nation, respectively.

A forward from Hayneville, Ala., Moorer is second in the SWAC in rebounding with 6.7 rebounds per game and is ranked 12th in scoring at 11.8 ppg. He also leads the Hornets this season with six double-doubles.

Mundadi and Moorer hope to help lead Alabama State to a second consecutive SWAC Tournament title this week. ASU opens tournament play against rival Alabama A&M Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from the CenturyTel Center.
