MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -  On March 10, 2009 Montgomery County Commission Chairman Todd Strange became Montgomery's mayor-elect. Two weeks later he was sworn in and the next year became a whirlwind.

Strange says he's known as, "The mayor of bad weather."

First, a tornado hit East Montgomery. Then 6-weeks into his first term, "100-year flood" overwhelmed parts of the city. Mayor Strange says that is possibly the worst day since he took office.

He also had to tackle a budget in one of the poorest years financially, but there are also a lot of good days. He said those are when, "I get to mingle with the people."

Strange acknowledges there's still a lot of work ahead. "What we really need to do is create job opportunities."

The mayor says Montgomery can't move forward unless we're all in step. "I don't really look at it as east-west or black-white issue - it's an economic situation," says Strange.

Strange said he does believe Montgomery is a better place since he took office. His term ends next year. He says he has not decided if he will run for re-election.
