AUBURN, AL - When the East Alabama West Georgia Will Graham Celebration kicks off this weekend, the audience will be entertained by free concerts featuring some of the most popular and decorated artists in Christian music.
Matthew West, who has the most played songs on Christian radio in 2008 ("You are Everything") and 2009 (the Grammy Award-nominated hit "The Motions"), will perform every evening both before and after evangelist Will Graham speaks.
Two of the featured bands playing at the Celebration are TobyMac and Skillet. Both bands are up for Artist of the Year at the 2010 Dove Awards, the Christian music industry's most prestigious award. TobyMac has won both Dove Awards (Artist of the Year and Group of the Year) and Grammy Awards for his work as a solo artist and for his role as one-third of the groundbreaking group dcTalk.
"TobyMac and Skillet are in the middle of their Awake Tonight Tour and are graciously taking one day to come and play at the Will Graham Celebration," said J.W. Clarke, program director for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and the man behind the music for the Celebration. "Tickets for this show are selling across the country for up to $75, but they will be playing in Auburn for free."
Also performing during the weekend-long event are hip hop artists Trip Lee and Canton Jones, as well as country music legends Diamond Rio and southern rock band DecembeRadio.
"Not only do we have some of the top musicians in the country coming to our area, but the concerts are free of charge and you don't even need a ticket to get in," said Banks Herndon, who has been leading the local Celebration Executive Committee. "We'll have something here for everyone, from kids and college students to parents and grandparents. I hope our entire region comes out to hear the great music and Will's messages."
