MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery fire crews battled an early morning blaze that left one person critically injured.

The blaze broke out around 4:00am at a home on the corner of Crescent Road and Edgemont Avenue.

Firefighters found the home's only occupant unconscious on the floor of a bedroom. Four others had escaped the blaze unharmed.

The victim, 34 but not identified by name, was transported to an area hospital. Authorities say the victim is in critical, but stable condition and is expected to survive.

The fire was a two-alarm blaze and took firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish.

The home, which family members had been remodeling earlier in the day, suffered extensive damage. Investigators are not sure if the remodeling had anything to do with the fire, however.

Investigators say the fire appears to have started accidentally, but continue to look for the source of the blaze.
