OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) - Opelika State Troopers tell WSFA 12 News the right northbound lane of Interstate 85 around mile marker 48 will remain closed for sometime because of damage to the railing caused by an accident.
Both northbound lanes remained closed for sometime Thursday morning after an 18-wheeler hauling a load of sugar flipped, caught fire, then set the trees near the interstate on fire.
One person was reported injured and was taken to a local hospital. Their identity or exact injuries were not immediately known.
The Alabama Department of Transportation placed flashing road signs along the roadway to direct drivers into the left lane. Commuters should expect delays when traveling through the area.
An investigation continues into what caused the crash.
