Shelby announces $7.7 million for Alabama regional airports

WASHINGTON, D.C., (WSFA) - U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a total of $7,655,565 to 34 regional airports in Alabama for infrastructure improvements.

"Investing in the infrastructure of Alabama's regional airports will not only provide the safest and most efficient transportation services for Alabamians, but also ensure that the area remains desirable for residents and businesses," said Shelby.  "This grant will provide funding to help Alabama's regional airports make improvements that are necessary to accommodate those traveling to, from, and through our great state."

Of the $7,655,565 awarded to Alabama, the following airports will receive funding:

Ashland/Lineville Airport

$75,000

to acquire land for a new terminal area and update the airport master plan study

Bessemer Airport

$177,318

to update the master plan study

Bibb County Airport

$75,000

to acquire land for approaches and rehabilitate the apron

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport

$1,435,579

to acquire safety equipment and improve runway safety

Carl Folsom Airport

$155,192

to construct a fuel farm, a heliport/helipad, and improve airport drainage

Centre-Piedmont-Cherokee Regional Airport

$183,202

to improve the airport access road

Dauphin Island Airport

$535,745

to acquire land for approaches

Dothan Regional Airport

$457,362

to install perimeter fencing and rehabilitate the apron

Enterprise Municipal Airport

for runway rehabilitation

Franklin Field Airport

to conduct an environmental study, rehabilitate runway lighting, and install miscellaneous navigation aids
