MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A man accused of attempting to murder two Montgomery police officers with a car is in custody.

The incident happened Saturday as police tried to apprehend the driver, now identified as 20-year-old Joshua Sanders.

Police say they tried to pull Sanders' silver 2002 Pontiac Grand Am over in the Vista Terrace Apartment Complex, but the suspect is said to have sped towards them in an attempt to run over the officers. The officers fired two rounds at the car, which sped off.

Investigators found the automobile Sunday on Tyler Road and quickly seized it for evidence.

Sanders was charged with Attempted Murder and transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility under a $60,000 dollar bond.

Authorities say an exact motive for the offense is unknown, but officers were attempting to stop the vehicle because they believed the driver had just conducted a drug transaction.
