DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) – Law enforcement across the wiregrass has a new tool to fight crime.
Thanks to a grant from the Department of Homeland Security those agencies now have access to a state of the art mobile crime lab.
"It's a vehicle we can get into and have a controlled environment so investigators do not have to operate on the trunks of their cars in different types of weather conditions," said Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes.
The truck contains everything officers need to process a major crime scene. It covers a ten county region that services multiple agencies.
Officials say this mobile unit will be a major asset in the way they process crime scenes. Officers say it's making their jobs easier.
"It's has equipment that we've never had before, it's going to make it much more efficient for us to investigate crimes,' said Sgt. Tony Turner, an investigator with the Houston County Sheriff's Office.
The crime scene unit is stationed in Houston County and will be coordinated by the Houston County Sheriff's Office.
