UPDATE: MISSING CHILD ALERT CANCELED. CHILD FOUND SAFE.

CULLMAN, AL (WSFA) - The Alabama Department of Public Safety canceled a missing child alert for 10-year-old Jada Milee Peterson Friday afternoon. The girl was found, safe, after her non-custodial father took her from from her school earlier in the day.

Cullman Co. Sheriff Tyler Roden says the girl's father, George Wayne Peterson, is in custody. He called the Cullman County Sheriff's Office after seeing media reports of the missing child media alert and assured investigators that his daughter was fine.

After refusing to tell investigators where the little girl was located, investigators traced the phone number to an address. Investigators forcibly entered the home and arrested Peterson.

Investigators say George Wayne Peterson has a known history of violent tendencies.

The daughter was in the home, and was not injured.
