MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Since WSFA 12 News first aired surveillance video Sunday of an abduction attempt, police have received countless tips from viewers.
"We have received some leads and some information on some different tips that we've been following up on. We also have units out being very proactive," explained MPD Captain Keith Barnett.
Authorities are scouring the streets, stopping any SUV that matches the vehicle description--in this case, a black, Nissan XTerra.
"I had no idea what was going on. I was pulling up in CVS and three cop cars pulled up and pulled me over," said Lee Casals of Montgomery.
Meanwhile, neighbors near Hunter Station Baptist Church are shaking their heads. Many of them have seen the SUV before.
"From time to time, we have cars that come through and turn around and leave, and he's done that before, but he's never stopped and gotten out," said Randall Blair, who lives down the street from the church.
"My grand babies were out in the yard, in the driveway when all that went down. One of them is 10, one of them is 11. Same age as that girl," explained Lloyd Thompson of Montgomery.
As the search continues, residents are left hoping police quickly find their man, but they're worried he may strike again.
"People be crazy these days. They just don't care," said one neighbor.
At the same time, authorities urge parents to keep their kids alert.
When someone approaches a child in this type manner, it's very hard to think of any reason he was doing it that could be good," Barnett said.
