DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) – Wiregrass law enforcement hit the books Tuesday morning.

The Houston County District Attorney's office was offering courses for officers to learn new and improved techniques that lead to solid court cases.

"Not only is an arrest important but successful prosecution of a case is sometimes the most important part of the whole total case," said Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes.

Officers are taking courses on homicides, interviewing and filling out paperwork properly.

"The dark side learns how to defeat police officers by doing things in different ways but we want to stay on top of it, with better training so we can be on the winning side to protect the community," said Doug Valeska, Houston/Henry County District Attorney.
