Former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford has reported to a federal prison in Kentucky to begin serving a 15-year sentence for bribery.
Langford surrendered around midmorning Wednesday at the Federal Correctional Institution Ashland, which is located in northeast Kentucky.
Earlier, the 64-year-old Langford told the University of Alabama's student newspaper that he expects to die in prison because of his age and the length of his sentence. He still claims he is innocent.
Langford was convicted last fall on 60 felony counts of taking some $240,000 in bribes from former investment banker Bill Blount.
He was automatically removed from office with the conviction.
