The baby, Lia A. Hall, had been transported by ambulance to the hospital and was unresponsive. Wednesday, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences determined Hall died from blunt force trauma to the head.
A homicide investigation started and police reinterviewed the child's mother and stepfather, Geoffrey Mendenall, 21 years of age, who were staying at the Stay Lodge on Chestnut Street.
Based on the interview with Mendenall and the findings by the Department of Forensic Science, police charged the man with Capital Murder and placed into the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
He's being held on no bond.
Baby Hall's death is the eighth homicide in Alabama's capital city since the start of 2010.
