MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - When it comes to bingo, Governor Riley tells Attorney General Troy King to back off!
The governor wrote a letter to the attorney general directing him to stop any effort to direct or interfere with investigations and prosecutions undertaken by his Task Force on Illegal Gambling.
The letter says Riley is using his "supreme executive power" to make sure laws are enforced and to overrule King's efforts to fire the task force's commander.
Riley also directed King to withdraw his court filings taking over the state's position in a Lowndes County lawsuit over electronic bingo machines at the White Hall Entertainment Center.
The letter reflects the growing division between Riley and King, who was Riley's selection for attorney general in 2004.
