Jury deliberations are drawing near in the murder trial of a south Alabama evangelist accused of killing his wife and leaving her body in a home freezer for about three years.
Anthony Hopkins testified Friday in Mobile that he found his wife woman dead in their home and was too distraught to call authorities.
But a prosecutor said in closing statements later Friday that the 39-year-old Hopkins killed Arletha Hopkins, a 36-year-old mother of eight, in a violent 2004 fight. Assistant District Attorney Jill Phillips said Hopkins terrorized his wife and young children, isolated them and used the Bible to manipulate them.
The jury is to begin deliberations after instructions from the judge.
