MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) – AAA released a study showing that the average cost to own and operate a car has risen 4.8% -- costing drivers an average of $8,487 annually.
Last year, the average was 54 cents per mile, or $8,095 annually. This year that has risen to 56.6 per mile based on $15,000 miles of driving.
Experts attribute rising fuel costs as a factor in this year's study. Good thing is there is a growing demand for fuel-efficient vehicles. Smaller cars are experiencing less depreciation.
